ASANA is an informal network of agencies working directly with asylum seekers living in the community or in immigration detention. ASANA was formed in May 2008 and is auspiced by the Refugee Council of Australia.

The aims of the network are:

  • to establish a mechanism by which asylum seeker welfare and support agencies in Australia can be represented, as appropriate, at a national level;
  • to create a forum in which asylum seeker welfare and support agencies can capture, consolidate and share data at a national level;
  • to improve information exchange between asylum seeker agencies; and
  • to develop, as appropriate and necessary, joint platforms for policy, advocacy and campaigns regarding asylum seeker issues, particularly as they relate to welfare and support.

ASANA is open to asylum seeker agencies that focus on direct service provision, humanitarian assistance, welfare support and casework. Other agencies are welcome to become observers of the ASANA network and will be included in consultation and information dissemination.
Current ASANA members include;

  • NETWORK OF ASYLUM SEEKER AGENCIES (NASAVic) Victoria

A network of more than 12 agencies working together in Melbourne to coordinate and advocate on behalf of asylum seekers. Convened by the Refugee Council of Australia.

THANKS

We would also like to thank the many wonderful donors, supporters and friends of the Asylum Seeker Project, all too many to be mentioned in this list.

A special thanks to the wonderful support of the Asylum Seeker Support Networks, the Justice and International Mission Unit of the Uniting Church in Australia (Vic/Tas) and to ASP's amazing staff and volunteers.

Thanks also come from the asylum seekers we work with:

'I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the people who helped me and my family get through a very emotional and fearful period of our lives. Thanks to the ASP for coming into our lives at the right time when we had nowhere else to go.'

'Thank you for putting a roof over our shoulders and for helping us look after our families. Also thank you to the St. David's [Canterbury] congregation for providing us with a house and with other families, especially during the arrival of our new baby girl. There are no words to describe how grateful me and my family are for all the help these fantastic people and the rest of the community have done for us as well as many other people in similar situations.
For all the wonderful things you have done, a world of love and thanks from me and my family!"

And thanks to Redfish, Bluefish for this website.
